Cookie Policy
1. Introduction
This Cookie Policy explains how Cropli ("we", "our", or "us") uses cookies and similar technologies when you visit our website at cropli.io (the "Service"). This policy explains what these technologies are, why we use them, and your rights to control their use.
Essential cookies are set as you use the Service. Analytics cookies are set only if you accept them in the cookie banner, and you can change that choice at any time (see section 9).
2. What Are Cookies?
Cookies are small text files that are placed on your device (computer, smartphone, tablet) when you visit a website. They are widely used to make websites work more efficiently and provide information to the website owners.
Cookies can be "persistent" or "session" cookies:
- Persistent Cookies: Remain on your device for a set period specified in the cookie or until you delete them
- Session Cookies: Expire when you close your browser
Cookies can also be "first-party" or "third-party" cookies:
- First-Party Cookies: Set by Cropli directly
- Third-Party Cookies: Set by external services we use (e.g., analytics providers)
3. Why We Use Cookies
We use cookies for several purposes:
- Essential Functionality: Enable core features like user authentication and account access
- Performance and Analytics: Understand how visitors use our Service to improve it
- Personalization: Remember your preferences and settings
- Security: Protect your account and detect fraudulent activity
- Content Delivery: Track what content you've accessed (for paywall and subscription features)
4. Types of Cookies We Use
4.1 Strictly Necessary Cookies
These cookies are essential for the Service to function properly. Without these cookies, certain features would not work.
Examples:
- Authentication Cookies: Keep you logged in as you navigate the Service
- Security Cookies: Protect against cross-site request forgery and other security threats
- Session Management: Maintain your session state and preferences during your visit
Duration: Session or persistent (up to 30 days)
Can be disabled: No (required for basic functionality)
4.2 Functional Cookies
These cookies enable enhanced functionality and personalization, such as remembering your preferences and settings.
Examples:
- Preference Cookies: Remember your language, region, and display preferences
- User Interface Cookies: Remember your view preferences (e.g., list vs. grid view)
- Content Access: Track articles you've read to enforce subscription limits
Duration: Persistent (up to 12 months)
Can be disabled: Yes, but functionality may be limited
4.3 Analytics and Performance Cookies
These cookies help us understand how visitors use our Service, allowing us to improve performance and user experience.
Examples:
- Usage Analytics (cropli_vid): A random identifier for your browser, so we can see which pages and dashboard views you use, in what order and for how long, and the actions you take. If you have a Cropli account or give us your email, your visits are linked to it.
- Your choice (cropli_consent): Remembers whether you accepted or rejected analytics cookies
- Google Analytics (_ga): Aggregated traffic and performance measurement
Duration: cropli_vid 13 months; cropli_consent 6 months; Google Analytics up to 24 months
Can be disabled: Yes. None of these except cropli_consent is set unless you accept them, and you can withdraw at any time.
4.4 Marketing and Advertising Cookies
Currently, we do not use third-party advertising cookies. If we implement advertising in the future, we will update this policy and seek your consent where required by law.
5. Third-Party Cookies
We use services from trusted third parties that may set cookies on your device:
5.1 Firebase (Google)
- Purpose: Authentication, database services, and hosting
- Cookies: Firebase session cookies for authentication
- Privacy Policy: firebase.google.com/support/privacy
5.2 Stripe
- Purpose: Payment processing and fraud prevention
- Cookies: Security and anti-fraud cookies
- Privacy Policy: stripe.com/privacy
5.3 Analytics Providers
- Provider: Google Analytics, loaded only after you accept analytics cookies
- Purpose: Website analytics and performance monitoring
- Cookies: _ga and _ga_* measurement cookies
These third parties have their own privacy policies and cookie practices. We recommend reviewing their policies to understand how they use cookies and handle your data.
6. Other Tracking Technologies
In addition to cookies, we may use other tracking technologies:
6.1 Local Storage
HTML5 local storage allows us to store data locally in your browser. We use local storage for:
- Caching data to improve performance
- Storing user preferences and settings
- Maintaining application state
6.2 Web Beacons and Pixels
Small graphic images (also known as "pixel tags" or "clear GIFs") that may be included in our emails to track whether messages have been opened and links clicked.
6.3 Server Logs
Our servers automatically record information such as your IP address, browser type, referring/exit pages, and timestamps. This information is used for system administration and security purposes.
7. How to Control Cookies
You have several options to control or limit how cookies are used:
7.1 Browser Settings
Most web browsers allow you to control cookies through their settings. You can:
- Block all cookies
- Block third-party cookies only
- Delete cookies when you close your browser
- View and delete individual cookies
Here's how to manage cookies in popular browsers:
- Chrome: Settings → Privacy and Security → Cookies and other site data
- Firefox: Options → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data
- Safari: Preferences → Privacy → Cookies and website data
- Edge: Settings → Cookies and site permissions → Manage and delete cookies
Note: Blocking or deleting cookies may affect the functionality of the Service, and you may not be able to access certain features or content.
7.2 Opt-Out of Analytics
You can opt out of analytics tracking by:
- Choosing Reject in the cookie banner, or changing your choice at any time with "Cookie settings" at the foot of every page
- Using browser extensions that block analytics scripts
- Contacting us at support@cropli.io
7.3 Mobile Devices
Mobile devices have settings that allow you to control cookies and tracking:
- iOS: Settings → Safari → Block All Cookies
- Android: Settings → Privacy → Clear browsing data
8. Do Not Track Signals
Some browsers include a "Do Not Track" (DNT) feature that signals to websites you visit that you do not want to have your online activity tracked.
Currently, there is no industry consensus on how to respond to DNT signals. At this time, our Service does not respond to DNT browser signals. We will update this policy if we adopt a DNT standard in the future.
9. Cookie Consent for EU Users
We ask every visitor, wherever they are, before placing analytics cookies, in line with the EU ePrivacy Directive, the GDPR and the UK's PECR. The banner offers Accept and Reject with equal weight.
- Accept: we set the analytics cookies described in section 4.3 and record the pages you visit, how long you spend on them and the actions you take, linked to your Cropli account or the email you give us. We use this to improve Cropli and to follow up with people who asked to hear from us. We never sell it.
- Reject, or no answer yet: no analytics cookies. We record only which pages are viewed in that browser tab, with a temporary identifier that ends with the tab, no IP address, and no link to your account.
We ask again after six months. You can withdraw or give your consent at any time with (also at the foot of every page), or by contacting us at support@cropli.io.
10. Updates to This Cookie Policy
We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, technologies, legal requirements, or other factors.
When we make changes, we will update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this policy. For material changes, we may provide additional notice, such as a banner on our website or email notification.
We encourage you to review this Cookie Policy periodically to stay informed about how we use cookies.
